Turkish military hits 23 PKK targets in N. Iraq


The Turkish military hit 23 PKK targets in Northern Iraq, the General Staff said in a statement released on Saturday. According to the statement, the Turkish military carried out airstrikes and destroyed shelters and supply points used by the PKK terrorists.The military also targeted PKK positions in Turkey's southeastern Şırnak province, destroying bunkers and arms caches.The military also arrested 11 people in Kilis province, including five children, as they attempted to cross into Syria to join Daesh.Since Turkey's June 7 general elections, the PKK terror organization stepped up its attacks against Turkish security forces and civilians, killing more than 100 Turkish security personnel. The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by the U.S., the EU and Turkey.Formed in 1978, the terrorist group has been fighting the Turkish government for an independent state until the early 2000's. The group then shifted its goal to autonomy in predominately Kurdish inhabited regions of Turkey.
