Twenty-two PKK terrorists have been killed by security forces during operations conducted after the announcement of a curfew two weeks ago in the Nusaybin district of the southeastern province of Mardin, according to a written statement by the governorate of the province released on Friday.According to the statement, two terrorists have been captured injured, together with two who were put in jail, along with four detained terrorists. The statement also indicated that five people have been killed while 21 people were wounded, including three police officers.Terrorists organized attacks against police 22 times with hand-made explosives and with 33 times with rocket launchers, while security officers closed and removed 116 ditches and barricades, the statement read."Searches have been done at 111 different addresses and in the searches, two hand-made explosives, four grenades, dozens of pieces of equipment for the bomb-making process, medical materials, 25 bullet-proof vests, Kalashnikov ammo, organizational documents, clothes of organization members and basic foodstuffs were confiscated," the statement indicated.Meanwhile, according to a statement issued by the governorate in the southeastern province of Şırnak, eight PKK terrorists left the organization and surrendered to security officers. The judiciary is still processing the surrendered terrorists.The statement also indicated that 1,071 terrorists have surrendered to security officers since March 21, 2013, in Şırnak and the surrounding districts alone. The government has intensified its counter-terror operations following recent attacks carried out by the PKK, which is recognized as a terrorist organization by the United States, EU and Turkey. Formed in 1978, the PKK fought the Turkish state for an independent Kurdistan until the early 2000s. The group then shifted its goal to autonomy in the predominately Kurdish inhabited regions of Turkey.
