Four Syrian regime military airplanes full of weapons arrived at the Qamishli airport in the PKK Syrian affiliate Democratic Union Party's (PYD) armed People's Protection Units- (YPG) controlled Hasakah province on Sunday evening, Fars News Agency reported yesterday.Quoting Arab media outlets on Monday, the report says that the weapons were delivered to the YPG to begin operations to recapture the strategic town of al-Shadadi from the DAESH terrorist organization.The report also says that the YPG is advancing toward moderate opposition groups in Aleppo, including the village of Maranaz, the integral Minaq Military Airport and the village of al-Alqamiyah with Syrian and Russian air support.A coalition of opposition groups including Ahrar al-Sham, the Free Syrian Army (FSA), the al-Shamiyah Front, the Army of Islam, and the Mujahideen Army have been in clashes with the YPG and the Syrian army in Aleppo.It was previously claimed that Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime has relations with the PYD in northern Syria. The PYD was not invited to the recent talks on Syria in Geneva.Some experts say that Assad needs the YPG to maintain his power and there have been several supportive statements from both sides in the last few months.In December, Assad gave an interview to the U.K.'s The Sunday Times newspaper in which he said that the regime supplies arms to the PYD. PYD Co-Chair Salih Muslim said in an interview with Al-Hayat magazine in July that they will allow the return of Syrian regime forces to Rojava and that the YPG will join forces in that case.
