PKK-affiliated YDG-H’s Ankara regional head detained at HDP office

Police detained the regional head of the Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement (YDG-H), the PKK terrorist organization's urban youth branch, in a provincial office of Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in Ankara on Saturday.

According to information obtained by Anadolu Agency (AA), a counterterrorism police unit raided the HDP's Ankara office on a tip that a terrorist from a rural area arrived in the city. A.S., who was detained in the raid, turned out to be the Ankara head of the YDG-H.

After undergoing a health check, the suspect was taken to the police's counterterror branch for his testimony.

The HDP has been long accused of being the PKK's political extension. Accused of not distancing itself from the PKK, some HDP deputies might face legal action in the upcoming period should Parliament decide to lift their immunity.

Parliament is currently readying to discuss a motion the lift the immunities of five HDP deputies, including HDP Co-Chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ.
