Turkish cabinet convenes in border town of Şanlıurfa


Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu convened the Cabinet in Şanlıurfa, a province bordering Syria, to discuss the terror-hit southeast and the developments in foreign issues.Monday's Cabinet meeting was considered highly significant because it was held outside of Ankara for the first time in 13 years.The last Cabinet meeting held outside Ankara occurred on Sept. 4, 2003, when then Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held the meeting in Sivas in honor of the anniversary of the Sivas Congress incident. The meeting marked the assembly of the Turkish National Movement that united delegates from all Anatolian provinces of the Ottoman Empire. In this respect, Davutoğlu held the Cabinet meeting in Şanlıurfa on the anniversary of the province's independence.
