CHP dissidents to demand emergency convention

Following emergency conventions held by the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), the Republican Peoples' Party (CHP) is facing an intra-party opposition movement led by former CHP deputy Şahin Mengü.

The intra-party opposition congregated at the Uğur Mumcu Foundation and held a closed-door meeting. The meeting included some former CHP deputies and delegates, and lasted for six hours. During the meeting held by the CHP's intra-party opposition, Turkey's current political landscape and the problems Turkey is facing were discussed. While the current position of the CHP administration was addressed, the attendees at the meeting stressed the "need for a new party chairman and administration is vital."

The intra-party opposition group is expected to publish in a few days a notice that demands the CHP hold an emergency convention. Mengü told Anadolu Agency: "It was a productive meeting, we discussed the current problems in Turkey and offered solutions." Mengü said it was important that the CHP change their current administration. He added, "We are working on a notice, in the following days, we will declare it to the public."
