AFAD president criticizes int'l community for lack of support for refugees


The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) held a high-level meeting for countries from the OCHA Donor Support Group on June 15-16 in Stockholm, under the chairmanship of term president Sweden, at which the head of the Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD), Fuat Oktay, touched on the increase in the number of people affected by the current humanitarian crises around the world compared to the previous century. Providing details if Turkey's spending on Syrian refugees, Oktay said: "For the Syrians in our country, we spent what is more than about $11 billion in compliance with U.N. standards up until today. The contribution from the international community to this huge number has only been $500 million."

During the meeting, the OCHA's strategy, policy, new projects and financial administration were evaluated and its activities over the period and the results of both the Ethiopia Trip Field and the World Humanitarian Summit were discussed. Speaking at the meeting, Oktay spoke of possibilities and services provided for Syrians in Turkey. Summarizing the promises given at the World Humanitarian Summit, Oktay said that the OCHA's promises should also be appreciated under "The Financing of Humanitarian Aid."
