Operations against coup attempt concluded, head of intelligence organization says


The Head of Turkey's National Intelligence Organization Hakan Fidan said that systematic operations against the coup plotters have finished, and detentions have been made.

Speaking to Habertürk TV, Fidan said that they are now conducting spot operations, and everything should be finished in one to two hours.Intelligence organization's headquarters were attacked by military helicopters and heavy machine gun fire during an attempted military coup overnight, wounding at least three people, an intelligence source told Reuters on Saturday.Fidan, was at a secure location throughout the events and was in constant contact with President Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, the source said.The intelligence agency was still working with the army, the police and the government against the coup plotters in ongoing operations in Istanbul and Ankara in particular, the source added.Later on the same day, a joint operation targeted pro-coup soldiers within Ankara's Akıncı 4th Main Jet Base to save the Commander of the Gendarmerie Forces, General Galip Mendi. In the successful operation, the general was rescued by Turkish security forces while 67 coup soldiers surrendered.
