Prominent advertiser Erol Olçak and 16-yr-old son killed in failed coup attempt

A prominent figure in advertising business and renowned for campaigns he launched for the Justice and Development Party (AK Party), Erol Olçak and his 16-year-old son were killed on Friday night after a small military junta linked to the Gülenist Terror Organization (FETÖ) staged a coup attempt.

Olçak and his son went to the Bosporus Bridge to protest after it was shut down by pro-coup soldiers. They were both shot to death by pro-coup soldiers who opened fire on civilians.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan shared a very close relationship with Olçak. President Erdoğan attended his funeral ceremony that was held on Friday at the İlahiyat Mosque in Istanbul, where he shared a few emotional words, breaking into tears during his short farewell speech.Among the political figures that attended the funeral along with Erdoğan were Parliament Speaker İsmail Kahraman, former President Abdullah Gül and former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu.Olçak had made a commercial film about a similar situation in Turkey where the people came together to raise back the nation's flag. The commercial is almost a foreshadowing of the coup attempt thwarted by the people. At least 2,839 pro-coup members of the military, including 29 colonels and over 40 generals, were detained across Turkey.
