Croatian police arrested Tuesday a suspected PKK terrorist sought by Turkey over terrorist attacks in the 1990s, police and media said Thursday.

Local media identified him as Murat Catulay, a former member of terrorist organization TIKKO, the military wing of the Turkish Communist Party and the PKK.

The 52-year-old man was arrested near the southern town of Omis following an Interpol alert, a police spokeswoman told AFP. He was questioned by an investigating judge in the nearby town of Split, she added.

Catulay is sought by Ankara for participating in several terrorist attacks in Turkey between 1989 and 2001, the Slobodna Dalmacija daily reported online.

The man was visiting Croatia on a family holiday when he was arrested.

A judge granted him bail pending a decision on Turkey's extradition request.

TIKKO was also thought to have ties to the PKK, which has waged a three-decade terrorist campaign in southeast Turkey.
