Alaattin Yüksel, the provincial chairman of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) in western Izmir province, announced on Wednesday his resignation from his duties.

In a written statement, Yüksel stated that his resignation does not stem from any arguments or tensions within the party, saying that he gave this decision upon differences in working style and administrative ideas.

Yüksel, who previously served as the Izmir provincial chairman between 2001 and 2005 and Izmir deputy between 2011 and 2015, had been holding the post of provincial chairman since December 2015.

With his departure, the CHP provincial chairman post will be changing hands for the tenth time in the past 11 years.

The CHP fares far better than other parties and its own national average in Turkey's third largest city of Izmir, where it had won six consecutive parliamentary and three local elections by a great margin.

Party Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and General Secretary Kamil Okyay Sındır are both deputies from Izmir, whereas two other deputies also serve within the party caucus and central executive board.
