A recent poll published on Thursday showed that support for President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has notably increased following the failed July 15 coup attempt by a military junta loyal to the Gülenist Terror group (FETÖ).

According to the "Pulse of Turkey July 2016" poll conducted by the Metropoll research company between July 28 and Aug. 1, Erdoğan's approval rating after the coup attempt reached 68 percent, an increase of 21 points over polls taken before July 15. Metropoll interviewed 1,275 people using the computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI). Erdoğan's previous peak approval rate was over 70 percent during time as prime minister in December 2012.

The poll found Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım's the approval rating to be 58 percent, a rise of 18 points, while the biggest increase in approval was for Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli whose approval reached 40 percent, an increase of 23 percent. According to the survey, approval for Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu is 26 percent and approval for Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chair Selahettin Demirtaş is 15 percent among respondents.
