Syrian Kurdish leader kidnapped by PYD near Turkish border freed

PYD, the Syrian offshoot of the PKK terrorist organization, on Sunday released the head of Syria's Kurdish National Council (ENKS), Ibrahim Biro, who was abducted on Saturday in the northeastern al-Hasakah province, a Kurdish official has said.

"Ibrahim Biro, who was abducted by PYD forces, was brought to a place close to Iraqi border with Syria and released overnight," Nuri Birimo, a senior member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Syria (KDP-S) told Anadolu Agency.

He said Biro had walked to a Kurdish peshmerga position and was later secured by peshmerga forces.

The Kurdish member said that Biro's health was well.

Biro and a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Syria (PDKS) Suleyman Oso were kidnapped by the PYD in Al-Qamishli city in Syria's Al-Hasakah Governorate following a conference they attended together.

Turkey considers PYD and its armed branch YPG as the Syrian offshoot of PKK terror organization.

ENKS is a coalition of 12 Syrian Kurdish parties and known to have developed an opposition stance against PYD as the group became more dominant in northern Syria over time.
