CHP's Kılıçdaroğlu makes yet another political blunder

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu made another gaffe in statements regarding the proposed constitutional change to a presidential system Monday speaking in the province of Bursa where he said there will be a two-headed system if the Turkish nation says "yes" to the amendment package while trying to criticize the presidential system.

"If I go out of my own area of expertise and interfere with someone else's duty, it means a two-headed system. What will happen if we say ‘yes' to the constitutional amendment? There will be a two-headed system because the president elected [by the Turkish nation] will be both the president of the nation and the chairman of a [political] party," Kılıçdaroğlu stated. The CHP chairman has been criticized by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım for his inability to internalize the 18-article amendment package that includes the abolishment of the two-headed system.

Meanwhile, the CHP's Kılıçdaroğlu speaking on a radio program on March 6 stated that problems could occur under the proposed system, "Where the prime minister and the president do not agree on an issue," when, in fact, there will be no Prime Ministry under the new executive system.

"Assume that we formed the new model… The president will be the leader of a party whereas the prime minister will be the leader of another party. Then, conflicts will erupt," Kılıçdaroğlu said.

Prime Minister Yıldırım jokingly thanked Kılıçdaroğlu for better clarifying the constitutional changes, referring to the gaffe in reference to the presidential system. Yıldırım indicated that the proposed changes seek to eliminate the conflict between a prime minister and a president who hold different political viewpoints.
