Two soldiers killed during anti-PKK ops in southeast
Two soldiers injured during anti-PKK operations yesterday in Turkey's southeastern province have succumbed to their wounds at a state hospital, according to a security source.
The soldiers were injured in an operation led by the gendarmerie command, which was taking place in Şırnak's Bestler-Dereler region in the Uludere district, the source, who wished to remain anonymous, added yesterday.
Counterterrorism operations against the PKK terrorist organization remain ongoing in the area.
Meanwhile, security forces conducted airstrikes in northern Iraq's Gara, Zap and Qandil mountains region, where the PKK carries out much of its activities.
During the air raid several PKK targets were destroyed, military sources added yesterday.
In addition, a wide-range operation has been ongoing against the terror group in the southeastern provinces of Mardin, Diyarbakır, Hakkari and Elazığ where security forces have seized a large number of weapons during searches.
More than 1,200 people, including security force personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU, resumed its decades-old armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.
