President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who returned to his post as chairman of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) in late May, reportedly may postpone the reshuffle in the Cabinet until after 2017.

According to party sources, President Erdoğan will kick off the new era for the AK Party after Ramadan and he will reportedly start the reshuffle in local party administrations. The process for the ordinary congress also begins after Ramadan. The president and AK Party chairman will reportedly reshape the party's leading figures according to the 2019 elections.

Despite claims earlier that Erdoğan would begin his tenure in the AK Party with major changes to the Cabinet, the Sabah daily contends that the revision would be after the ordinary congress.

The president has asked ministers to prepare a six-month report on their performance according to sources. Waiting for the performance reports, Erdoğan will reportedly make his decision on the reshuffle by taking the reports into consideration.

Local administrators and party officials were criticized in the run-up to the April 16 referendum for their lack of enthusiasm and dynamism. Young politicians were reportedly expected to be more visible in local party administrations, while rejuvenation in the whole party organization is expected to bring new dynamism to the AK Party.

AK Party Group Deputy Chairman Bülent Turan told Daily Sabah at the time that the party reshuffle would revitalize them.

"Political persistency requires adapting to changing conditions. In fact, the AK Party's special place in Turkish politics is because of this. The AK Party gets its strength from change and transformation," Turan said.
