President Erdoğan released a statement in honor of the 95th anniversary of Victory Day, which is being celebrated today with nationwide activities.

In the statement, President Erdoğan highlighted Turkey's determined stance against terror threats, saying Turkey will defeat them wherever they are.

"Our fight against terrorist organizations such as the [Gülenist Terror Group] FETÖ, PKK, [Democratic Union Party] PYD, Daesh, in which we did not give make any concession from law, justice and democracy, is the most obvious example of our sensitivity over the issue," the president said.

"On that day, our nation waged a full-scale struggle in an great spirit of solidarity and proved that it won't allow colonialist powers' desires [come true] on Anatolian land," parliamentary spokesman İsmail Kahraman also said in the statement released yesterday.

Aug. 30 marks the victory in the Battle of Dumlupınar in Turkey's Aegean province of Kütahya in 1922 against Greek forces, as part of the Great offensive in the Turkish War of Independence. The battle paved the way to end Greece's invasion of Western Anatolia after World War I.

Emphasizing that the Turkish nation faced an invasion attempt in the first quarter of the 20th century, Kahraman said that the Independence War marked a crucial step.

"The Battle of Dumlupınar was the last victory of the Turkish War of Independence and it put an end to a 200-year-long retreat of our nation against Western powers, who wanted to discharge it," Kahraman said.

Meanwhile, Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar said that Turkey's military forces continue to contribute to peace and stability in Turkey, the region and the world, in a statement issued by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) yesterday in honor of Victory Day.

Akar said that the victory will continue to be a source of inspiration and pride for the Turkish nation, adding that it perpetuated once again the "might and heroism of the Turkish military."
