Issuing a message Thursday celebrating Qurban Bayram (Feast of Sacrifice), also known as Eid al-Adha, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called on the nation to pray for Rohingya Muslims facing violence in Myanmar.

Erdoğan's message also touched on the terror threats on multiple fronts, from the PKK to the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ), and assured that "our grand nation will never bow to terrorists."

"We will remain steadfast until we move our country above the level of contemporary civilizations with our democracy, economy and foreign policy," Erdoğan said in his message.

The president expressed hope that eid would bring goodness to humanity and the Islamic world, and called upon Turks to pray for the Rohingya Muslims trying to flee Myanmar after a violent crackdown by security forces that started last week. Erdoğan denounced the violence earlier and mobilized the United Nations to take steps to stop the violence.

In his message on the eve of the Muslim festival, Erdoğan mentioned key historic victories, the 1071 Malazgirt victory and the 1922 Dumlupınar victory anniversaries, which were observed just before the eid. The Battle of Malazgirt, also known as Battle of Manzikert, on Aug. 26, 1071 saw Seljuk Turks led by Sultan Alparslan defeat a Byzantine army and open up Anatolia for Turkish domination. The Dumlupınar Battle on Aug. 30, 1922 also saw invading Greek forces' eventual defeat at the hands of the Turkish army. "We also see July 15, 2016 [the defeated coup] as a link on our people's chain of victories," he said. FETÖ and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gülen are accused of orchestrating the coup attempt that killed 250 and injured 2,200 people resisting it.
