Majority of Turkish asylum-seekers turned down by Germany

Germany has reportedly turned down a majority of Turkish asylum-seekers in the first eight months of this year, the German language daily Der Tagesspiegel reported yesterday.

The report claimed that Germany's Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) evaluated some 8,547 applications between January and August, of which 5,040 were turned down on grounds of having no basis.

It also claimed that a number of Turkish nationals were deported by German authorities this year, including four in Berlin and two in Saxony and added that some 6,784 Turkish nationals were facing deportation by Aug. 31.
