Palestine's President Mahmoud Abbas is heading to Türkiye on Monday for a three-day official visit.

Abbas will meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for talks on bilateral relations, Palestinian Ambassador Faed Mustafa said in statements cited by Wafa.

The discussions between the two leaders will also focus on Palestinian developments as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern, he added.

Ankara supports a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and has condemned Israel's occupation of the West Bank and its policy toward Palestinians, while Israel has called on Türkiye to drop its support for the Palestinian resistance group Hamas, which runs Gaza.

Türkiye has said it will not abandon its commitment to Palestine in order to broker closer ties with Israel.

"We will continue to defend the rights of Palestine, Jerusalem and Gaza, and it is important that our messages are conveyed directly to Tel Aviv at the ambassador level," Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu recently said.

Türkiye shares a centuries-long joint history and has close cultural and social bonds with the Palestinian people.

Ankara supports a negotiated settlement to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the basis of the U.N. Security Council Resolutions 242, 338, 1397 and 1515, the principle of land for peace, the Arab Peace Initiative and the Road Map that would ensure two states living side by side within secure and recognized borders.

Türkiye is concerned with the ongoing division in Palestine since June 2007. It encourages for national reconciliation and also calls on the international community for taking a constructive attitude that would focus on a national agreement rather than separation and isolation.
