November statistics reflect reader preferences

With another month under our belt, it is time to look at the past four issues addressed by the Reader's Corner, which include today's subject, in order for us to gather a better idea of our readers' tendencies.

While most of our readers presumably know the drill already, let me quickly summarize. Every month, the last Reader's Corner categorizes the top-10 most widely read articles on Daily Sabah's website. Furthermore, the end of our seasonal analysis will come next week when, unlike before, our sampling pool will be rather small. Without further ado, let us take a look at the categories and subcategories of the top 10 list and what our readers look for when they visit our website.

Unsurprisingly, the politics section seems to be the most eye-catching category among our readers, and thanks to the combined efforts of our printed edition and web editors, 14 political entries were on the top 10 list. Politics has continued to surpass all other categories with nearly double the number of hits to this section compared to other categories of our website. As for the subcategories of this widely read section, Diplomacy took the lead with six entries while the subcategories of EU Affairs and War on Terror each had three. The remaining two among the top 10 are not classified within a subcategory.

It appears that second place is shared by World news and Turkey or local news stories since both of them managed to get six news articles on this month's list. All of World's entries are with a sub category since the Americas, the Middle East and Europe have three, two and one entries, respectively. Turkey, however, has four entries without a sub category, while two news articles came from İstanbul. While National news kept its place from last month, news articles in the World category, which ended up on top, made quite a jump.

Similar to last month, the category of Lifestyle managed to grab third place with five entries, two of which are from the subcategory of Religion, while the two subcategories of Science and Health both got one as well. Coming next is Business and Columns, which has three entries to its name. The number of Columns entries is the same as the last month, but considering our sampling pool is smaller than the previous time, there seems to be increased interest. İbrahim Kalın and Yahya Bostan were names that continued to be featured, like last month, while Ragıp Soylu had an article this time as well. The subcategory of Economy had two entries, while the Tech section had one.

The categories of Sports and our very own Reader's Corner also made an appearance this month for our article titled "Media no longer the fourth estate after Trump's victory," which gathered widespread interest from our readers.

As I mentioned at the beginning, a seasonal analysis will be coming to Reader's Corner next week. This will include analysis not only of the categories but also some of the most frequent writers on the list. More importantly, the correlation between numerical fluctuations by category in comparison with world news over the last three-month period will also be examined as we endeavor to make our predictions about the patterns of our readers' preferences as well as the number of articles each category received. Hopefully this will be as informative, as it is encouraging.
