A tribute to Daily Sabah's 3rd anniversary

With another year under the belt, Daily Sabah continues its publishing life with the same excitement when it first launched in 2014 and the added experience of three years in the sector, thanks to its young and diverse staff

It is always hard to notice the passing of time, especially when we busy ourselves with our day-to-day routines and continue to deal with whatever life throws at us. Years start to blur into one another, and the New Year becomes a repeat of years' past with the same hopeful resolutions that always bring bittersweet ends. Birthdays become a surprise lost in the busy schedules of our lives, as we no longer count the days in the same enthusiasm we had as children, brimming with the anticipation of presents. However, we always find the time and motivation to celebrate the results of our hard work with the sense of excitement unjaded by the grim outlook of adulthood. This week, Daily Sabah celebrated its third anniversary with much excitement and of course, cake. With the attendance of our colleagues from our sister newspapers and magazines along with our friends, the staff of Daily Sabah, both veterans of the daily's first test publications and our newest colleagues, bringing new talents to the table, came together to celebrate another year under our belt. The years have been kind to our newspaper, and with the leadership of our Editor-in-Chief Serdar Karagöz, Daily Sabah has become the most-read English daily newspaper in Turkey. The same goes for our website, which continues to serve as a go-to source around the globe for those seeking local news with our web department Manager Osman Bahattin Dirlik at the helm of its success.Of course, the editors of the printed and web versions of our newspaper have a large stake in the lion's share, and I would like to thank them for their hard work. It is also important to note that Daily Sabah possesses one of the youngest staff of editors among all papers in Turkey, and they pour their dynamism and inquisitive approach onto the pages, while our Managing Editor Nejat Başar brings his experience to the table.Another significant trait that places Daily Sabah's staff ahead of its peers would probably be the number of women on our editorial staff, which has been evenly split since its first issue. Journalism hasn't been the good old boy's network for quite some time, and the work of our team should be ample proof for those still failing to realize that. With Meryem İlayda Atlas as their editor, our Op-Ed and Columns pages and their articles always manage to garner positive responses from our readers. The tireless work of our copy editors continues to be the last checkpoint that refines and improves every work that finds itself on the pages of our paper, including this article, with Chief Copy Editor Gönül Aydemir leading the pack.Last but by no means least, I would like to thank our designers who manage to present word blocks that are as aesthetically pleasing to the eye of our readers as our website, both on par with modern standards.I still remember the first Reader's Corner article that was published back on March 2, 2014. It's title was "Daily Sabah will read you too," and we still stand behind that promise as this page continues to tackle reader complaints, demands and preferences along with the relevant issues of journalism, while opening and participating in debates that will hopefully benefit the media and, in turn, its readers. So, let me finish with the hopes of another year of journalism built upon integrity, transparency and relevancy.
