Rent highest expense for Turkish households

The average Turkish household spent TL 195 ($66) more each month in 2015 compared to 2014, according to data released by Turkey's state-run statistics agency.

Turkish Statistical Institute (Turkstat) revealed yesterday that the Turkish household spends TL 3,048 each month, compared to TL 2,848 in 2014.

The highest households expense in 2015 was rent, accounting for an average 26 percent of total living expenses, up 1.2 percent from the previous year.

The share of expenditures on food and non-alcoholic beverages was an average of 20.2 percent in 2015, up from 19.7 percent in 2014.

Healthcare accounted for an average of 2 percent, and education-related expenses were an average of 2.2 percent on average in 2015.

Transportation expenditures cost households were an average of 17 percent in 2015, down from 17.8 percent in 2014.

The share of clothing and footwear expenditures rose slightly to an average of 5.2 percent in 2015, up 0.1 percentage point from the previous year.

Hotel and restaurant expenditures averaged 6.4 percent last year, a rise from 6 percent for the previous year.
