Turkey’s first glass-dome mosque to be built

Rİze will be home to a new project where a new living space will be constructed over a 50 acre area along the seafront. The project's shining star will be a new mosque and the innovative techniques that will be used in its construction. While the mosque's minarets will be built from wood, the dome will be made from glass. The plans of the new mosque suggest there will be new approaches in the construction of the building as well as its decoration. The mosque will gain a monumental look thanks to the combination of stone, wood and glass. The project will bring the modern and traditional together, and will feature eco-friendly materials and advanced technology. For the first time in the last 100 years, a mosque and a social complex around it will be built from cut-backing stone, wood and glass. Rize Municipality has begun working intensely on the project "Mavişehir" (Blue City), which is being undertaken by the Rize Culture Art Foundation. It has completed the preliminary preparations after listening to the opinions of executives, academics and locals. The plans of the project are already causing a stir among locals. Mavişehir will feature a madrasah, a cultural center, conference halls, a library, a museum, a fountain, stone bridges, pools and a children's game center. A 3,500-square-meter area will be used for the construction of the mosque. Living space with 63 shops, including an exhibition venue, a library, a folk dance hall, a women's culture center, a soup kitchen, coffee shops and restaurants that will serve local tastes, will be constructed as a part of the project.Mavişehir will be built in line with Rize's history, culture, art and architecture, and will stand tall upon completion.
