Worldwide two thirds of people claim to be religious, 79 percent in Turkey


Some 63 percent of the world's population claims to be religious, 22 percent not to be religious, and 13 percent say they are atheists, according to a poll released by one of the leading associations in market research, WIN/Gallup International, on Monday. The most recent poll conducted by the WIN-Gallup International was based on interviews with 63,898 people men and women selected from 65 countries across the globe in five continents.According to the results, Thailand is the most religious country globally (94%), followed by Armenia (93%), Bangladesh (93%), Georgia (93%), and Morocco (93%), whereas China is the least religious country with twice the amount of convinced atheists than any other nation (61%). Those who say they are religious in Turkey amounted to 79 percent of the population, whereas 13 percent said, 'I am not religious'. Only two percent say, they are convinced atheists in Turkey, whereas six percent did not answer the questions, or their answers could not be identified. The relationship between age, income and people´s religiosity reveals interesting trends worldwide. Those under age 34, tend to be more religious, according to the results. About 66 percent of those between ages of 25 and 34 say they are religious, whereas this figure is lower than 60 percent for those above age of 55. Income also appears to influence the results: 50 percent of those with a medium high and high income say they are religious, compared to 70 percent for those with low, medium low, and medium income.
