The fifth annual "Fest-i Ramazan" in Dortmund brings Turkish-style celebrations to Germany during the holy month of Ramadan. Attracting hundreds of Turks and Germans of all ages each year, the festival takes place at a large venue next to Signal Iduna Park. Ergün Özkaya, the festival coordinator, said this year, they expect around 1 million visitors.Aiming to revive traditional celebrations of Ramadan nights and bring them to life in Germany, the festival is one of the biggest Ramadan festivals in Europe. "More than 150 business owners, 40 of whom come from Turkey, are participating this year," Özkaya said. Traditional food stalls, arts and shopping centers, along with a play area for children, are available at the festival area.A masjid is also available for visitors who would like to observe the tarawih prayer, a voluntary prayer encouraging the reading of the Quran, which is performed during Ramadan. "Muslim communities gather here and they are allowed to create their own events. We also wanted to bring Turks together," he added. Inspired from the Ramadan events at Istanbul's Sultanahmet Square and Feshane fair area, the "Fest-i Ramazan" is open to public every day in Ramadan from 6 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.
