Wheelchair charging units to be installed in mosques

The Presidency of Religious Affairs (known as Diyanet) is preparing to install charging units for battery-operated wheelchairs in mosques. It is reported that the project will be first initiated in provinces around Turkey.

The first charging units will be placed in the Ahmet Hamdi Akseki and Hacı Bayram mosques in Ankara, the Blue Mosque and the Fatih and Ataşehir Mimar Sinan mosques in Istanbul, the Konak Mosque in Izmir, the Emir Sultan and the Grand Mosque in Bursa, the Hacı Mehmet Özkan Mosque in Kayseri, the Grand Mosque in Samsun, the Alabey Mosque in Gaziantep and Berat Mosque in Diyarbakır.

Each charging unit will have the capability to charge three wheelchairs. While chairs are being charged, people will be able to read the Quran and access other religious information via screens installed on the charging units.

The units will also feature stories and tales for children.
