Stock exchange, airports and popular websites could be negatively affected by the leap second.Experts at the Paris-Based International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service (IERS), -the organization responsible for managing time throughout the globe- had come to the conclusion that the slowing rotation of the Earth could be compensated by adding another second to time on June 30, at 23:59:59 to be exact. They claimed that the leap second will not only compensate the slowing down rotation of the Earth, but it will also prevent the shifting of seasons, which is caused by it. Leap seconds have existed since 1972, and the most recent one took place in 2012, when many websites were negatively affected.
