A group of five researchers from Gediz University in İzmir designed flexible solar panels made of soundwaves and plastics. The budget-friendly, semi-transparent panels, which are both light and durable, will increase electricity production from the sun.Designed based on nanotechnology, solar panels can be used to cover the façade of buildings, allowing them to produce electricity. Assistant Professor Yavuz Bayam, the head of the research team, said silicon solar panels are applied on certain places. "Flexible solar panels, on the other hand, can be installed on many surfaces. I believe it will contribute to the renewable energy sector," he added. The panels were designed following a year-long study. The team was also invited to a conference by the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers in the U.S. "We will introduce our project there," he said. The Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) will collaborate with the team to develop the product for its market release.
