Turkish astronauts to be trained at Bursa's new space center


The foundation for Gökmen Space, Aviation and Training Center, which is built by Bursa's Chamber of Commerce with the contributions of Scientific and Technological and Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), was laid with a ceremony overseen by top officials on Wednesday in Bursa.

The aim of the project is to enable Bursa to become the technology and manufacturing base of Turkey in the fields of aerospace and defense thanks to its significant technical infrastructure in the automotive main and sub industries and the machinery industry, culture of cooperation and human resources.

Moreover, the Gökmen Project is to increase youth awareness on space and aviation. In this context, Işıklar Fest was organized in cooperation with Işıklar Military High School, which attracted tens of thousands of people. Additionally, world-renowned French astronaut Patrick Baudry and Turkish astrophysicist Umut Yıldız, who works at NASA, will meet with the students.
