Eda Tuğsuz breaks her own national javelin record

With one amazing heave of 64.3 meters, Eda Tuğsuz smashed her own national javelin record by three meters. At one go, Tuğsuz got the passing grade in order to participate in 2017 World Javelin Championship to be held in England. Tossing the javelin 56.9 meters last year, Eda had successfully broken Turkey's longstanding women's record for farthest javelin throw, which belonged to Aysel Taş for 16 years.

Most recently, the 20-year-old track and field phenom won the silver medal at the 2017 European Cup Winter Throwing in the Under 23 women's class and in 2013 she also won the European Youth Summer Olympic Festival. The 2017 European Cup Winter Throwing competition, which was held on March 11-13 at the Gran Canaria Sport Complex in Las Palmas, Spain, was where Tuğsuz had set her previous national record of 60.98 meters. Meanwhile, Turkey's Athleticism Federation President Fatih Çintimar praised Tuğsuz for her accomplishment."We overcame very difficult periods. But we never gave up and we moved on with the support of our Sports and Youth Ministry. I congratulate Eda and wish her more success in future tournaments," Çintimar said.
