After Nur Tatar Askari won a gold medal in the 2017 World Taekwondo Championship on Tuesday in South Korea, another Turkish athlete repeated the same success yesterday. Zeliha Ağrıs defeated her Russian opponent Tatiana Kudashova in the women's 53 kg final in the city of Muju. Tatar won a close final 6-4 in the women's Under 67 kg category at the event which ends Friday. Zeliha has achieved her first world title.

Meanwhile, Turkey's men's wheelchair basketball team reached the semi-finals of the European Championships by beating Italy 66-63 in Tenerife. They faced Germany in the final four yesterday as of press time. Great Britain's men's team advanced to the semi-finals by beating Poland 96-69. They also played against the Netherlands in the semifinals yesterday. Elsewhere, Turkish wrestler Muhammed Lütfi Küçükyıldırım won the bronze at the European Junior Wrestling Championship for free style wrestling in the 74 kg weight class.

Another Turkish athlete, Leyla Yanardağ, won the world title at the World School Sports Athletics Championship in Nantes, France. Meanwhile, Para-Taekwondo National team went to South Korea for the 3rd Asia Para-Taekwondo Championship. Since para-taekwondo is included in the Paralympics for 2020, the World Taekwondo Federation is struggling for this sport to make progress. For this reason, continental championships are open to every country in the world. The third Asia Taekwondo Championship will be held in Chuncheon, South Korea on July 1, where 13 athletes will compete for Turkey.
