Records tumble at Deaflympics
In the men's 4x100 medley relay, Miron Denisov broke the world record.

In the women’s 400m hurdles, Russian Asya Khaladzhan broke the world record with a time of 1:00.22 while Kenyan John Koech broke the Deaflympics record with a time of 3:48.95 in the men’s 1,500m. In the men’s pole vault, Kirill Fillipov broke the Games record at 4.81m



With the first week over, the 23rd Summer Deaflympics has already created several records. In the men's 50m three positions, South Korean Changchoon won the gold. The world record holder Swiss Thomas Moeschnig won the silver and German Colin Daniel Müller won the bronze. In the women's 400m hurdles, Russian Asya Khaladzhan broke the world record with a time of 1:00.22 and won the gold. In the men's 1,500m, Kenyan John Koech broke the Deaflympics record with a time of 3:48.95 and earned the gold medal. In the men's pole vault, Kirill Fillipov broke the Games record with 4.81m and won the gold medal. Another Russian, Dmitriy Kochkarovi won the silver and Cheng-Yu Chen from Chinese Taipei won the bronze.

In the men's shot put, the reigning champion Dmitry Kalmikov defended his title. Turkish athletes Mahmut Kılıç ranked eighth and Serhan Çalhan ranked ninth. In the women's 10,000m the Chinese Chunhua Yang, German Nele-Alder Baerens and Russian Daria Gaynetdinova got the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the men's 400m hurdles, Russian Alan Tyshenko won the gold medal. In the women's 1,500m, Russian Diana Solodova took the gold. Heptathlon ended with long jump, javelin throw and 200m. Russian Anastasia Klechina, who came first in six of the seven legs, won the gold with 4911 points. In the men's javelin throw qualifiers, Turkish athlete Alperen Akbulut ranked 10th and qualified for the finals. In the women's 100m semi-finals, Turkish athlete Aysun Akay came fourth in her series and was eliminated.

In the women's basketball, the Turkish team slammed Kenya 88-24 and achieved their first victory of the group. The team finished third in the group and made it to the quarter-finals.

In the men's basketball, the Turkish team lost 76-67 to Venezuela. Despite the defeat, the Turkish team completed the group fourth and made it to the quarterfinals. The quarter-finalists of Group A are Lithuania, Venezuela, Greece and Turkey. In Group B, the quarter-finalists are Ukraine, Russia, Argentina and Slovenia.

The Turkish Women's Deaf Football Team lost 4-1 to Great Britain in their fourth match of the competition. In the women's golf, the Deaflympics journey of İlknnur Çavdar and Gülistan Öztunç came to an end in the quarter-finals. In the men's golf, Allen John from Germany, Steven Cafferty and Paul Daniel Waring from Great Britain and Lasse Emil Nielsen from Denmark made it to the semi-finals.

The Turkish Men's Deaf Handball Team defeated Russia 24-18 in their last match of Group A and finished as the group leaders, making it to the semi-finals. Russia were the other semi-finalist from the group.

In the men's kata, the Turkish athlete Burak Mert Can lost to the Thai athlete Phongsathat Phantib and received a silver medal. Fatih Çiçek defeated the Italian Daniele Di Guido in the bronze match. In the men's kumite 67kg, Turkish athlete Mehmet Ali Sapmaz lost to the Russian Sergei Borovikin in the finals and received a silver medal.

In the women's 50m backstroke, the Russian swimmer Olga Kliuchnikova broke the world record with a time of 29.34 and won the gold medal. Kliuchnikova also broke a world record in the qualifiers, so she broke a world record twice in one day, improving her record by 0.91 seconds the second time. In the women's 400m freestyle, Russian Viktoriia Terenteva broke the world record with a time of 4:25.94. In the men's 200m freestyle, Brazilian Guilherma Maia Kabbach broke a world record with a time of 1:52.55 and earned the gold medal. In the 4x100 medley relay mixed, the Russian team of Alena Alexeeva, Martin Fomin, Andrei Zhivaev and Maria Karpova broke the world record with a time of 4:07.20 and won the gold medal.

In the men's 50m breaststroke, Russian Martin Fomin broke the Deaflympics record with a time of 29.22 and earned a gold medal. He had also broken a world record in the qualifiers.
