Turkish tanks shelled Daesh positions in northern Syria and not those of the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia, Turkish military sources said on Friday, after the YPG said it was being targeted.The YPG said in statement that two Turkish tanks fired dozens of shells at its positions in the area of Afrin in northwest Syria.Military sources speaking to Reuters dismissed YPG's claims and said that Daesh positions were targeted instead.Previously on Feb. 29, Turkish military targeted Daesh positions in north of Syria's Aleppo province with artillery fire as part of the anti-Daesh coalition efforts. Approximately 50 to 60 rounds of howitzer shells were fired into Syrian territory.Although Turkey considers PYD/YPG as a terrorist organization that acts as the Syrian offshoot of PKK, it has taken limited action against the group in Syria so far. Turkish artillery targeted the militia of PYD/YPG trying to expand their control over the towns of Azaz, Marea and Tell Rifaat in northern Aleppo in coordination with Syrian regime forces and Russian airstrikes.
