Russia deceived Iran in Syria, aimed repairing relations with US, ex-official says

Ali Hurrem, Iran's former ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, said that Russia deceived Iran in Syria in "everywhere it wanted."

According to the report of Turkey's official Anadolu Agency, Hurrem said that Russia initially supported Iran in Syria and Iraq, then withdrew its forces from Syria.

Claiming that Iran's efforts are to keep Syria's territorial integrity, Hurrem said that this strategy proved unfruitful due to Russian withdrawal. Saudi Arabia and Turkey were very content of Russian move and winners of the "game" in Syria, he added.

Hurrem said that Russia and China are trying to build relations with the U.S. on every occasion, criticized those who oppose Rouhani government's efforts to improve relations with Europe.

If Iran is in touch with all countries in the world, neither China, nor Russia or Europe can deceive Iran, Hurrem said, claiming Russia's all efforts in Iran were to improve relations with the U.S., which were deteriorated over the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.
