Turkish NGOs send more aid trucks to Syria

A total of nine trucks carrying aid for displaced Syrians living in tent cities have been dispatched to the rural areas around Syrian port city Latakia, near the Turkmen Mountain and close to the Yayladağı border gate in Turkey.

The trucks are filled with donations from the Turkish Red Crescent, and other NGOs including Sadakaeli, İHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation and Heybe Humanitarian Relief Foundation. The vehicles have recently reached Turkey's southern district of Yayladağı in Hatay province on the border with Syria.

The aid packages, which contain humanitarian aid items such as clothing, dry food, coal and bread, will be transferred to other vehicles that are waiting across the Syrian border from the Güveççi neighborhood.

Over the past few months, Turkey has dispatched truckloads of aid to ensure that the families struggling to survive inside war-torn Syria are cared for at home, in addition to hosting nearly three million Syrian refugees.

Syria has been gripped by a devastating civil war since early 2011, when the Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests, which erupted as part of the "Arab Spring" uprisings, with unexpected brutality.

Millions have been forced to flee their homes and live in camps in Syria and neighboring countries, including Turkey, while hundreds of thousands of people are believed to have been killed by government forces.
