Syrian opposition downs regime jet in ceasefire area

Syrian opposition fighters downed an Assad regime jet in southern Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Tuesday, right outside an area under a current ceasefire.

The jet was shot down on the outskirts of Sweida city, the Britain-based monitoring group said.

It said that clashes are ongoing between Free Syrian Army fighters and regime forces in the same area.

There was no immediate information on the fate of the crew.

The Observatory accused the Assad regime of frequently breaching the truce agreement which went into effect on Sunday and was brokered by Russia and the United States.
