Facebook introduces Snapchat-like captions and stickers

Facebook enables the use of Snapchat-style text, emoji-like stickers in its photo editing tool with the newest update of its iOS app. This new app is called Slingshot and although it has similar features and editing tools to Snapchat, it does not have a time limit for each sent message. After the update, if a user uploads a photo via the iOS Facebook app, they will be able to see a magic wand icon in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. The icon opens a photo editor menu which lets users choose filters, captions, stickers and the option to tag friends. After the app and necessary packs have been downloaded, stickers can be placed and re-positioned anywhere on the photo in addition to changing the color of the text placed on the photo. The app is currently available on Apple devices with iOS 7 and Android Jellybean and KitKat.Back in 2013 Facebook had tried the buy the tech giant Snapchat but Facebook's $3 billion (£1.9 billion) acquisition bid was rejected. The founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg bought the mobile-messaging application Whatsapp a year later in 2014. Previously, Facebook had also acquired Twitter in 2008 and Instagram in 2012 with the mantra " if you can't beat 'em, buy 'em".
