With 4.5G technology, live broadcasting will increase

As 4.5G infrastructure is established and put into service, the rate at which photographs and videos are shared will rise due to the increased data transfer speeds. Moreover, live broadcast apps such as Periscope are also expected to be used more

The 4.5G mobile technology tender took place on Wednesday. The tender ended with bids totaling 3.9 billion euros, which exceeded expectations, and the telecom companies that bid in the tender have already begun working to implement the new technology. The infrastructure work for 4.5G, which can be used starting from April 1, 2016, has gained momentum, and smartphone users will be able to download a full HD Facebook video faster with the introduction of 4.5G technology. In other words, social media users will have a chance to watch more videos and share more photos in a shorter period of time. Moreover, live broadcast applications such as Periscope will be more easily accessible and simple to use. This new technology will also heat up the competition. A smartphone camera and modem will be enough for live HD broadcasting. On top of that, professional cameras will be able to broadcast in high resolution thanks to 4.5G technology.Category 6 supportEach smartphone connects to the Internet through the modem inside of them. The category number of these modems refers to the Internet speed of the device. Smartphones that support category 6 (CAT 6) will theoretically have a 300 megabits per second (Mbps) download speed capacity and a 50 Mbps upload speed capacity. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) usually designate the uploading speeds of smartphones. Qualcomm, which is the biggest smartphone chip manufacturer, has been offering solutions for smartphones that support high speed Internet since last year. With dual core support, the Internet speed of CAT 6-oriented smartphones will be positively affected.Devices supporting 4.5GDual core smartphones with capacity to reach 300 Mbps are regarded as CAT 6 devices in theory. Since 2015, most of the flagship phones offer CAT 6 support. However, many phones have been 4G-ready for a while now. Smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 have CAT 6 support. All flagship smartphones that will be introduced in the near future will also have CAT 6 support or higher. We are ready to solve problemsBeykpour said they launched a service that is difficult to moderate. He is also concerned about certain bans. "We feel bad when a country bans Periscope. This service was designed to facilitate communication between people. Governments cannot decide what people can use or not. This is one of the biggest problems in the world. Twitter is very helpful for us in this regard. There is contact between the Turkish government and Twitter; it is a big advantage. If we have a problem in Turkey, then we will try to solve it through Twitter," he concluded.Turkey in top five for live broadcastingFounder and CEO of Periscope, Kayvon Beykpour, said Turkey is one of the top five countries with the most Periscope users. He also praised Mustafa Mete Ekol, the Turkish professor who offers online math classes via Periscope. While sharing video and photographs online continues at full speed, Periscope has become a part of our lives as an exciting new app. A smartphone with an Internet connection and the Periscope app enables people to launch a live broadcast in seconds.Periscope, which has been operating since the end of March, has 10 million users. The San Francisco-based company made an ambitious start on March 26 after Twitter bought the company. I visited Beykpour in San Francisco and had an informative and entertaining chat. He said that Turkey excites him so much, as the country is among the countries that use the app the most. "I can say that Turkey is among the countries that has the most Periscope users. I believe that, currently, Turkey is among the top five countries. The users are very active. I was very impressed by the warm-hearted people during my four-day visit to Cappadocia and Kayseri. Now, the good things that those people do excite me," Beykpour said.Periscope changed the definition of educationBeykpour said Periscope is not just about popular and funny videos, and cited a Turkish professor who gives geometry lessons via the app as an example. "A professor from Turkey uses Periscope for education. He is currently reaches out to a number of students and continues his lessons regularly. As all other Internet services, Periscope is a tool. People can use it as they want. Unfortunately, there are people who use this app for abusive purposes but there are also people like the Turkish professor," Beykpour said. In fact, not every job at the Silicon Valley is a fairy tale. What's more, there are turning points even for the jobs that turn out fine. Beykpour offered insight about the process of developing Periscope. "It was a very difficult period. Not everything went smoothly until we introduced the app to the users. We faced many difficulties. We spent nine months developing Periscope and did not give up until every technical detail was resolved. We tried to put together the best team while developing Periscope," Beykpour said.Experience is prioritizedOf course, these kinds of apps offer a unique broadcast platform to its users but they are not charities; they need to profit. Beykpour said he is not currently thinking of incorporating advertisements within the app; however, he did not say that this ad-free app will last forever. He underscored that his priority is to offer the best experience to users, and continued: "We are not planning to sell advertisements now. We are focused on presenting the best product to users. We know that if we execute our plans, we will be able to develop another app where people can engage in more live broadcasts. Hence, we are not currently working on a business model. Will there be ads in the future? It is very soon to tell."Broadcast qualityBeykpour said Periscope's broadcast quality changes based on many factors in Turkey. "Video quality on live streams can change in line with many factors. Based on resolution, loading takes more time when live streaming. Similar to all video platforms, freezing during live streaming is the first problem that we want to resolve. We are trying to reduce delays as much as possible. We are working on uninterrupted live streaming. Even when the Internet bandwidth is low, we reduced these delays to two seconds. On YouTube, it takes the same time to watch any HD video. This is the same for Periscope," he said.
