Apple investigating report of iPhone 7 Plus catching fire in US

Apple said on Friday it is investigating a reported case of an iPhone 7 plus catching fire after a teenager living in Arizona, the U.S. posted a video and photos of smoke erupting from the side of her phone on Twitter.

Brianna Olivas, 18, said that she started experiencing problems with her device the day before the phone exploded and took it to a local Apple Store where employees could not find any problems with the smartphone after running several tests.Via Brianna Olivas' Twitter account

"The next morning I was asleep with my phone charging next to my head, my boyfriend grabbed the phone and put it on the dresser. He went to the restroom and from the corner of his eye he saw my phone steaming and heard a squealing noise," Olivas told Mashable.

According to the report published on Mashable, the company contacted Olivas after the incident and the case is now being investigated. "We are in touch with the customer and looking into it," an Apple spokesperson said.

The problem is thought to be linked to the lithium-ion battery inside of the device as a defect in Samsung's high capacity lithium-ion batteries caused it to stop the production of Galaxy Note 7's and recalled thousands of devices.
