Yandex unveils new features of its navigation app

Yandex unveiled Wednesday the new features of its navigation application to be available to users in Turkey in the very near future.

Yandex, a Russian company, which has been operating in Turkey since 2011, has a navigation application that is quite popular among Turkish users. The new features for its application include a park assistant system and updated information about places in the biggest cities. Yandex Turkey Branch Chief Zafer Sever made a speech in Istanbul yesterday as part of Yandex's inauguration of the new features. Sever said that the Yandex Navigation application introduces an assistant to help users while parking. The navigation application is designed to provide necessary routes to parking lots.

Additionally, with the cooperation of other users, users will be able to learn whether there are empty parking spaces. Sever explained that users who leave the parking lot will be able to post a notification that the spot will be free. Stressing that 60 million people in the world use Yandex Navigation, Sever said that Yandex takes its navigation app to a whole new level by heading toward smart navigation. "Yandex's share in Turkey is 7.8 percent. Also, 61 percent of active internet users in Turkey prefer Yandex," Sever said, adding that the company aims to get the figures higher.

Onur Karahayıt, Map Servies Chief for Yandex's Turkey branch said that the new features were introduced in Turkey even before Russia, because Turkey holds a unique place in the company's operation areas. Karahayıt said that the number of users of the Yandex Navigation app has skyrocketed over the past couple of years. "It helped us gather big data more easily," he added. Stressing that people have started to wonder "What Yandex Says?" before leaving their homes or workplaces, Karahayıt said that the Yandex application dominates people's lives given the remarkable number of hours spent in traffic in Istanbul.
