Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. (TUSAŞ / TAI), which conducts projects on the National Combat Aircraft, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, Space and Aircraft Structures, will set up a "solution center" in Teknopark Istanbul in order to realize the ongoing projects to the desired quality and timeframe.
TAI General Manager Temel Kotil told Anadolu Agency (AA) that the aerospace industry is a field of study that requires continuous research and development (R&D) work and high technology.
Kotil said TAI's innovation policy has been defined as "the execution of innovative and applied research activities in a way that will increase the competitiveness of the products of the company's fields of activity" and "the study of innovative and high-tech alternatives for the products whose external dependency is required to be terminated.
Turkey's technology center TAI conducts studies at the Teknopark Istanbul TAI R&D Center campus in order to ensure that the ongoing projects are carried out to the desired quality and timeframe, with priority given to the National Combat Aircraft, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, Space and Aircraft Structures. Kotil pointed out that the center is planned to be a "solution center" for the TAI in the coming period.
Kotil stated that the R&D Center will start operating at the beginning of September on an area of 1,770 square meters in the Teknopark Istanbul campus next to Sabiha Gökçen Airport.
Kotil said that they aim to use the business potential and technological know-how of the universities in Istanbul in their original projects and that 100 engineers will be employed in the first stage at the center and that this number will be increased to 200 within a few years.
Kotil said that the recruitment process has involved interviews with graduates of engi
neering faculties at Istanbul universities following the announcement made on various human resource platforms.
"At the R&D center where candidates graduated from the Departments of Aeronautics and Space Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Control Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering and Computer Engineering will be employed, interviews will be held and bright and well-educated young people, esteemed and experienced engineers and productive researchers abroad via reverse brain drain will be brought to our company," he said.

Having determined its technology policy as "positioning technology as a fundamental leverage for sustainable competitive advantage on a global scale," the TAI aims to increase technology density and thus added-value in all sales, including exports.
In addition to the original products developed and modernization projects conducted by the TAI, many projects are being carried out in the fields of product development, research and technology development, process innovation, organizational innovation and concept studies at the R&D centers.
Having an ambitious goal of $10 billion in turnover, the TAI is making investments in terms of growing its existing business portfolio with new projects and international cooperation, acquiring new technologies, developing its original products and increasing its competitiveness in order to achieve this goal.
The TAI conducts R&D and software activities at the ODTU Teknokent apart from the central campus in Akıncı. A team of about 250 people conduct projects in the TAI R&D buildings (Nuri Demirağ and Vecihi Hürkuş buildings), which are located in an area of approximately 4,000 square meters at ODTU Teknokent Defense Industry Research and Technology Development Sub-Region.
