Tourism industry sees highest employment


The tourism sector saw a 13.1-percent increase in employment in 2014, with the sector coming third in Turkey in terms of the number of overall employment, based on the number of insured employees. While tourism saw the highest leap in employment, the retail trade sector tops the list of most overall employees, and the building and construction sector comes in second. According to data prepared by the Mediterranean Tourist Hotels and Operators Association, there are 1.04 million insured employees in the tourism sector in Turkey, with an increase of 13.1 percent compared to the same period in the previous year. In the same period, the number of insured employees across Turkey increased by 5.1 percent, reaching 13.3 million overall. According to the figures, the tourism sector created employment equaling 18.8 percent of the 642,000 people employed last year.
