German tourism giant to continue operating, investing in Turkey

Dietmar Gunz, CEO of FTI Group, Germany's fourth-largest travel agency operating in 30 countries with 8,500 employees, said that they will continue to operate and invest in Turkey.

Speaking at the 7th International Resort Tourism Congress, Gunz explained that they want Turkey to be preferred by tour operators. Saying that there is no alternative country to Turkey, Gunz continued: "Despite some annoying incidents in the recent period, the only alternative to Turkey is Turkey itself. It is time to invest in Turkey."

Citing that tour sales for 2018 have begun and that sales figures are satisfactory, Gunz said: "Although we have not reached the expected level yet, we have expanded our tourism framework in Turkey and we feel greatly dedicated." FTI Group set 16 direct flights to Bodrum and will add new flights by March.

Gunz said that they have 1,000 employees in Turkey and they will continue to invest in the country.

According to compiled statistics of the Culture and Tourism Ministry, more than 3.3 million German tourists came to Turkey from January to October.

Moreover, Michael Frenzel, the president of the Federal Association of the German Tourism Industry, previously said early reservations point to a 15 percent to 20 percent rise in the number of German tourists visiting Turkey next year.

"Current bookings show a strong increase in German tourists visiting Turkey. We may see 15 percent to 20 percent growth in 2018, according to early reservations," he told Reuters.
