Şanlıurfa to host int'l Islamic scholars summit


With an aim to deliver the universal message of Islam, "peace, justice and freedom," the "International Islamic Scholars Summit," which will bring together more than 50 statesmen and academics, is set to begin in southeastern Turkey's Şanlıurfa on March 3, the city governorate has confirmed.Organized in collaboration with the Governorate of Şanlıurfa, the Presidency of Religious Affairs (DİB, better known as Diyanet) and Harran University, the two-day summit will bring together the most prominent figures of Islam from around the globe.At the summit, participants will discuss the reasons behind economic and political instability in Muslim-majority countries and attacks perpetrated by terrorist groups on the Islamic geography.Governor of Şanlıurfa Güngör Azim Tuna, in a statement, expressed his pleasure over hosting the most prominent names of the Islamic world in the city.Claiming the summit would be an event befitting Şanlıurfa, a city that claims to have been home to Abraham, Tuna said, the event will look to tackle questions and problems faced today by the Islamic countries across the world.Tuna hoped that the summit will bear realistic and scientific solutions and said, "Diyanet President Mehmet Görmez is also expected to attend the summit. Islamic intellectuals, who are considered to be the source of wisdom and knowledge in the Islamic geography, will come together in Şanlıurfa. We will host the scholars with great respect as honored guests of the Republic of Turkey."
