Sarsala Bay: Turkey's south offers a sweet winter escape

Located in Muğla's Dalaman district, Sarsala Bay is the blue boy of vacationers in fall with temperatures above seasonal norms and natural and historical sites.

In addition to its natural beauty, historical artifacts dating back to Byzantium and Ottoman times attract attention at the bay, which is 15 minutes from Dalaman Airport. The spot offers visitors the opportunity to swim in its turquoise waters in the fall. Vacationers from various cities prefer the bay for caravan camping.

Dalaman Mayor Muhammet Şaşmaz spoke to Anadolu Agency (AA) and noted that people can experience the warmth of the sun in November and swim.

Indicating that it is easy to reach the nearby historical bath and Göbün Bay from Sarsala, Şaşmaz said: "Here you can exercise and then swim. It is possible to holiday here even in winter. Visit Sarsala to experience heaven." He added that visitors would come across matchless beauties of nature and history while trekking at the bay.

Arzu Tan, who arrived in Dalaman from Istanbul by caravan, said that Sarsala Bay is a very special spot for her.

Tan noted that she has visited all corners of Turkey -- except the Black Sea region -- by caravan and said: "Turkey is a heaven of sea, beach and sunbathing tourism. You can experience the three here in Sarsala. Dalaman is a very special spot for me. It takes 15 minutes to reach the airport from here. Although its November, you can swim and sunbath in 25 degrees. I invite all to experience this heavenly spot."

Bahattin Yankıoğlu, another vacationer from Ankara, said that Sarsala Bay is not just a summer spot but can be visited in the fall. Mentioning the historical baths, antique olive oil storehouses, beautiful forests and the clean sea, Yankıoğlu added: "If you decide to visit Sarsala for a holiday, it doesn't have to be in summer. Although it is November now, the temperature is above 20 degrees. You can easily swim. It is very easy to reach islands, Fethiye, Göcek and the Sultaniye Thermal Spring from here. Everyone must come and experience Sarsala where sea, nature and history intertwine."

Bülent Tur, a vacationer from the Netherlands, appreciates that the spot is very close to the airport and said: "We really enjoyed perfect nature, the sun, which is hard to find in November, and nearby historical spots dating back to Ottoman times. We can go trekking in the morning and visit historical remains. Sarsala is a secret heaven so to speak."

Ersin Dur, who came from Ankara, stressed that the bay is a perfect spot for cultural tours as it is home to historical remains dating back to the Roman and Ottoman eras.
