YAŞ promotes 36 generals and admirals to higher rank

The decisions reached by the Supreme Military Council (YAŞ) have been approved by President Abdullah Gül. Accordingly, 36 generals and admirals have been promoted to a higher rank, while 49 captains have been promoted to general or admiral ranks. In addition, 49 generals and admirals have been granted an additional year of service.



The Supreme Military Council has also ruled on extending the retirement period for the 14 generals and admirals and the 58 captains currently detained in connection to a series of ongoing military coup plot investigations.
Retirement has been requested for 37 generals who were not granted positions due to the lack of availability, and two generals whom had reached the mandatory age limit. No one was dismissed from the Turkish Armed Forces this year due to disciplinary or moral infringements. Vice-admiral Nusret Güner was promoted to Full Admiral and made Fleet Commander. The following promotions were made in the Naval Forces Command: Rear Admiral Veysel Kösele has been made Vice Admiral, Commodores Kemallettin Gür, Hasan Şükrü Korlu, Emin Sami Örgüç have been promoted to Rear Admirals. Captains Mustafa Zeki Uğurlu, Ali Murat Dede, Aydın Şirin, Hasan Nihat Doğan, Muhittin Elgin, Hayrettin İmren and Ahmet Çakır have become Commodores. In addition, Vice Admiral Mehmet Otuzbiroğlu, Rear Admirals Halil Özkoç, Haydar Mücahit Şişlioğlu, Atilla Kezek, Commodores Ahmet Türkmen, İsmail Taylan, Sualp Tayfun Atılır, Nadir Hakan Eraydın and Ercüment Tatlıoğlu were promoted.

Corps Commander Mehmet Erten was promoted to Full General and made the Commander of the Air Forces. The following promotions were made in the Air Force: Major General Nezih Damcı and Mehmet Çetin were made Corps Commanders, Brigadier Generals Muhittin Fatih Sert, Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu, Ateş Mehmet İrez, Yılmaz Özkaya, Atilla Özkök were made Major Generals. Colonels Fethi Alpay, Serdar Gülbaş, Semih Koşucuoğlu, Atilla Darendeli, Suat Murat Semiz, Şaban Umut, Uğur Buldu, Koray Uz, Ahmet Cural, İhsan Özdamar were promoted to Brigadier Generals. Meanwhile, Corps Commanders Korcan Pulatsü, Ziya Güler, Major Generals Semih Birdoğan, Beyazıt Karataş, Atilla Özler and Brigadier Generals Mustafa İlhan and Haşmet Cihangir Kadakal were all promoted.

General Bekir Kalyoncu will be commanding the Gendarmerie Forces with the following promotions: Major General İbrahim Yaşar has been made Corps Commander, Brigadier Generals Ali Lapanta and Arif Çetin are now Major Generals, Captains Niyazi Ertan Patır, Necdet Güngör, Hacı İlbaş and Hacı Abdullah Doğan were made Brigadier Generals. Corps Commander Fikret Demirtaş, Major Generals Tunay Bilgen, Brigadier Generals Ali Aydın, Ümit Yılmaz and Murat Kırkaya were all promoted one rank. The following promotions were made in the Gülhane Military Medical Academy (GATA) are as follows: Brigadier Generals Sadettin Çetiner Major Generals, Medical Captains Halil İbrahim Altınsoy, Sait Bağcı and Mehmet Levhi Akın have been made Brigadier Generals while Naval Medical Colonels have been promoted to Rear Admiral.

The terms of service for both Brigadier General Yusuf Ziya Yergök and Rear Admiral Okan Özcan has been extended one year.
The promotions in the Land Forces Command are as follows; Corps Commanders İsmail Hakkı Pekin, Nejat Bek, Ömer Necati Özbahadır, Mustafa Korkut Özarslan, Galip Mendi, Major General Ahmet Yavuz, Saim Erkal Bektaş, Abdullah Dalay, İhsan Balabanlı, Yüksel Öztekin, Berkay Turgut, Yaşar Bal, Musa Avsever, Ömer Bayraklı, Orhan Turfan, Brigadier Generals Orhan Köprü, Hamza Koçyiğit, Mehmet Ali Yıldırım, Kasım Erdem, Asım Bülent Aker, Levent Gözkaya, Ersun Altunsoy, İzzet Çetingöz, Osman Ünlü, Murat Üçüncü and Fevzi Çömer.
