ANKARA — The Turkish Gendarmerie Command reported 14,412 children went missing in areas under its jurisdiction over the past five years, 834 of which have not yet been found. The gendarmerie is responsible for security services, particularly in rural areas. The Gendarmerie Command held a workshop on measures to prevent such cases and more effective ways to locate the missing yesterday in Ankara. Police officials and representatives of nongovernmental organizations attended the workshop. Servet Yörük, head of the Gendarmerie Command, said along with children running away from home, abduction for organ trafficking and recruitment for terrorist organizations were also common in the missing cases.
