Turkish police interrupted voting for the Abkhaz elections yesterday in Istanbul. Police officers confiscated ballot boxes set up at the offices of a nongovernmental organization despite resistance by a Turkish opposition lawmaker. Turkey deems the elections illegal as the country does not recognize the breakaway region of Georgia as an independent state.
