The Transportation Ministry is initiating a new program to install the Electronic Inspection System used in urban centers to cover the country's entire highway system in an effort to improve road safety.

The Transportation Ministry has initiated a program to install electronic inspection and control mechanisms on roads and highways across the country to improve road safety. The program aims to broaden the Electronic Inspection System (EDS) used in urban areas to highways and roads in rural Turkey. The new system, called the Traffic Electronic Inspection System (TEDES), will first be installed along the Ankara-Polatlı-İzmir highway within two years as a pilot project, with the ministry working to ensure the whole country is eventually covered.

According to the ministry, the plan aims to transform the nation's highways into clever roads with close collaboration with nongovernmental organizations, universities and the automotive and communications sectors. Also, a joint committee, with representatives from NGOs and the ministry, will meet every six months to ensure TEDES is running smoothly.
